This Selmer Mark VI Silver Tenor Saxophone 1950’s Serial #M76955 is in excellent condition with 85-90% of the original silver plating and light player wear across the saxophone. It has just come from the shop where it was cleaned, adjusted and repadded so it plays wonderfully. There are a few little minor dings in the bow, they are almost impossible to see but you can feel them, there is also one small ding below the thumb hook. There is light plating wear across the saxophone, the most notable on the top front of the body and back of the bell. Please see the pictures for more details. The serial number is M.76955 making this a 1958-1959 vintage tenor saxophone. Above the serial number has the engraved words: ” Made in France Brev. S.G.D.G. 920653 ENGL PAT 632799 US PAT 2940640 US PAT 2710558″. The engraving on the bell is beautiful and still crisp. The words “Brevete France & Etranger ” engraved at the top of the bell followed by “Henri Selmer Paris” engraved in laurel leaves After that “Fabrique en France par H. Selmer & Cie Place Dancourt Paris Selmer New York Elkhart London Made in France” with the R trademark sign. This tenor saxophone comes with the original “H. Selmer Paris” neck in fantastic condition and there is no evidence of a pulldown. It has a new Selmer case. No mouthpiece is included.
Selmer’s Balanced Actions, Super Balanced Actions and Mark VI’s are the Stradivarius of saxophones. At the end of the day deciding which to buy is a little like picking between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. It’s really a matter of preference. These aren’t Yamahas that are cranked out; each saxophone has its own character and presence that is almost impossible to describe on paper. Check out the video below to hear this saxophone
